The relationship between time and experience of place inspires Laura Hodgson’s work as a mixed -media artist. Through mark making she explores connection to location, recording moments experienced while working at the edges of the land.
Sketchbooks hold fleeting moments of time, thought and remembered moments from a pause on a walk or a recollection of the wind and elements. Layers of colour, line and mark are added and removed as though weathered, repaired and worn. The sketchbook page is a container for gathering the rugged qualities, sense of light, pace, flow and movement witnessed while working outside.
The landscape series seeks to transport the viewer to a stillness and calm, grounded within the foothills of the mountains and the vast sense of space that can only be experienced in such remote places.
Inspiration is sought off the beaten track, found in places such as Snowdonia, Devon and Cornwall as well as more local areas around Wittenham Clumps.
