Sketchbook and Draw, Half Day Workshops in February and March 2026
Sketchbook and Draw #01 is an opportunity to explore drawing techniques using a range of monochrome media such as pencil, graphite and pen. Using natural forms as inspiration, you will create a handmade folded sketchbook filled with observations of texture, form and shape. We will experiment with surface to create textured grounds and with mark-making and line to select and simplify. This is a creative drawing day whether you are just beginning, wanting to refresh your skills or to try out alternative ways of approaching drawing.
Sketchbook and Draw #02 is aimed at developing drawing techniques from Sketchbook and Draw #01 but could also be booked as a single workshop. Continuing to work in a monochrome palette you will explore working in layers incorporating wet and dry media such as pen and ink, ink and wash and the use of resist to develop your drawings. This will open up the possibilities of creating texture and form whilst celebrating the unexpected incidental marks that occur with these materials and processes. Similarly to Sketchbook and Draw #01, natural forms will be used as inspiration and you will create a handmade folded sketchbook. This course is suitable for beginners or those wishing to explore new ways of developing their arts practice. Experimental in its approach you will be introduced to new ways of mark making, layering texture and exploring composition intuitively through introductory printing methods. By the end of the day you will be equipped with techniques and processes that can be explored at home with or without the use of a press.

Create & Explore Winter Term 2026: Drawing, Painting, Mixed Media

Create & Explore Autumn Term 2025: Drawing, Painting, Mixed Media
A relaxed, sociable and creative group for artists and improvers looking for a space to share ideas, experiment with new ways of working and explore media and techniques. Aimed at building confidence and encouraging development of personal practice and style. Maximum class size of 8.
Exploring traditional and experimental drawing, printmaking and painting techniques. Subjects are varied and based around students interests and growth.

Beginners Create & Explore: Drawing, Painting, Mixed Media
Aimed at exploring a variety of approaches to drawing, mark making and mixed media to build skills and confidence for beginners. A relaxed and informal group suitable for those just wanting to make a start or those returning to art and making. Maximum group size of 8.
Subjects vary and include form, colour, line, texture and tone and encourage expressive line and mark making as well as improving traditional observational drawing, painting and beginner printmaking skills.
